The most help is needed on August 20 and 21 at Miramar, where we will welcome about 1,600 residents.  You can find Miramar on the campus map, located at #23 HERE, on the East side of campus.

A smaller number of volunteers are needed at Momentum Village on August 21, where we will welcome about 700 new residents.  Momentum Village is located on the Momentum Campus, at the corner of Ennis Joslin and Islander Way.  Please see the inset in the map, linked above, #24.

The times that the most volunteers are needed is 11am-4pm both days.  This is when the largest number of residents arrive to move-in.  Please come during that time if possible.

  • You can volunteer for as little or as much time as you have available.
  • Volunteers must check-in on move-in day at the Miramar Recreation Center (located to the left of the Club House/Office) or the Momentum Village Office (near the pool and by the main office at the corner of Ennis Joslin & Islander Way).
  • Volunteers will receive a volunteer button at check-in, which must be worn, and water will be available throughout the community.
  • Volunteers must complete a Texas A&M System Waiver of Indemnification prior to volunteering. Available HERE.
  • Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian or at all times.
  • Lunch will be served to volunteers from 11:30am-1:00pm and a limited amount of shirts will be available.

Move-in Tips

We are super excited that you want to help and we want you to be safe while you do it.

1. Hydrate Yourself

Please drink plenty of water. We are providing cold water throughout the property for everyone. Have a sip of water every 20 minutes or so to avoid dehydration and to keep cool.

2.  Wear Sunscreen

It will likely be 97 degrees with a UV index of 200, so wearing and regularly re-applying sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 20 is wise. Bring a bottle for your crew or use some when you check in at the volunteer table.

3.  You’re Not Superman

You don’t have to lift every box by yourself- it is better to grab smaller and more manageable loads and make more trips. There are no prizes for strongest mover!

4.  Take a Break

Feel free to have a seat, grab some water, and take a breather during the moving process. Your muscles will thank you and you will come back from your short break with more energy.

5.  Leg Lifts

Please don’t lift with your back or in a wrenching or jerking motion- it will hurt you short and long term. Instead, stand close to the object, crouch down, lift the item, and lift back up with your knees.

Thank you so much for your help welcoming new students to Islander Housing!
